this may be a dumb question, but where do I set what a publisher can earn for displaying our banners on his website?

I know there is not currently a method for paying them, but what is the incentive for publishers to join and place the banner code on their websites? I do not see any place to set the amount for impressions or clicks they generate on their websites.

Hate to say it, but it looks like you answered your own question.

"there is not currently a method for paying them"

The incentive would be in offering a rate per view / click, then paying based on
The OpenX reports that already exist.

Of course the incentive or rate would need to be published somewhere and
linked to your publisher sign up page.

Sure, as soon as someones is willing to pay for one.
let me know when you're ready to go and your requirements. You can pm me here.

For your project , or to add payment scripting, look into the reports plugins already available within OpenX.

RevMax is more about advertiser signup and payments. The publisher signup is a conveyance however with little scripting knowledge its pretty easy to add your own functions to.

All the ($) information is placed within openx campaigns on advertiser signup by RevMax and is available when viewing reports.

Publisher payments are a pretty simple process now: View reports > print check> mail check.

how much is this going to cost? nopromote.com has some interesting modifications there, but I would rather work with you and I would rather have a mod that is designed for what I already have installed.

As far as requirements, I don't really know - you're the expert but here are my thoughts on the issue...

#1 it would be very nice to be able to email the advertisers and publishers random messages from time to time being able to select whether one or the other or both get the email...

#2 obviously the publisher would need provide a paypal email address, so maybe a field inside his "my account" area that he can list his paypal email if different from signup email.

#3 in the admin area I would need to be able to set dollar amounts for certain number of impressions / clicks that the publisher can earn per zone.

On nopromote.com, one of theirs says that a percentage of advertiser payment can be set to pay to publisher, but in my case I don't know if that would work because I have monthly subscribers who get unlimited views and clicks for a flat monthly rate so I think I would have to be able to set a flat amount per view or impression to pay to the publisher.

#4 publisher should be able to view his billing details and likewise, administrator should be able to view billing details for publishers just as it is for advertisers.

#5 should be able to calculate stats x $$ amount  = monthly publisher payment or something like that.

#6 have the ability in the admin panel to set duplication of publisher so that all the web sites, zones and linked banners are copied to new publisher on signup instead of having to link each one individually for each and every new publisher.

those are just some of my thoughts on the issue. I have no idea what it would take to make that happen. I can tell you however, that we have a decent size network (almost 10 million page views and 1 million visitors a month) so this would be a good test site for you. I can also give you good feed back on your application so that should be worth something to you in terms of creating a solid program to market (where I don't have to bite off all the cost & programming time myself) as I know this is going to be a very useful script for a lot of people if you can make it work

Yes they do have a lot of interesting and somewhat expensive mods at that website.
Forgive me for being a simpleton however I cant make any sence of it.

Is there a base product and you add to that with more purchases for each function, or is each and every one of those really a unique addition that needs re scripted and updated whenever someone upgrades thier OpenX installation.

Seems like the cost would begin to add up greatly there if one wanted a plugin with all features and benefits in one like RevMax, or if you needed to upgrade your OpenX later.

Sounds like 2 more additions, email and publisher tracking / payments.
Like I said if you're serious you can pm or direct email me here.
